The fight takes place in the historic confines of Madison Square Garden on the undercard of one of Cameron’s old rivals, Katie Taylor. ‘The Bray Bomber’ headlines in her trilogy match-up with Amanda Serrano. Chantelle Cameron vs Jessica Camara Fight Preview

Cameron must be more than a little annoyed when she looks at the marquee for Friday’s event. Taylor takes on Serrano in the third fight of a rivalry that she leads 2-0. As scintillating, close and controversial as those two fights have been; surely Cameron should be the one in the hotseat?

It is a compelling argument. After all, Cameron is the boxer to hold a win over Taylor as a professional, outpointing her in an undisputed super lightweight title defence in Ireland back in May 2023. It always felt harsh that the rematch came in Taylor’s homeland again, despite Cameron’s win, just four months later. ‘KT’ claimed Cameron’s quadruple-title on that winter’s night.

Both fights were close, like Taylor-Serrano. Both were exciting, like Taylor-Serrano. But the ‘Il Capo’ finds herself on the undercard while it is Serrano who gets a third crack at the all-time best female boxer in the lighter weight categories. Arguably the best overall, but your obedient servant puts Claressa Shields ahead of Taylor by a nose.

Cameron’s WBC interim title technically keeps her in Taylor’s path, given the fact the Irish icon holds the full title as part of her undisputed crown. But the enforcement of these things is comically inconsistent.

I would not expect the WBC, the sanctioning body who recently instated Manny Pacquiao as the fifth-best welterweight on the planet four years after his last fight (and six after his most-recent victory) to adhere to the rules too closely. For the sake of balance I should note that the WBC did later remove him from the rankings, citing a “mistake” rather than acknowledging the fact they are just complete idiots.

Cameron cannot concern herself with the vagaries of parliamentary procedure right now, though. Camara is a dangerous fighter with something to prove on Friday.

Chantelle Cameron vs Jessica Camara - Method Of Victory Cameron on Points

Odds correct at time of publishing.

Canada’s ‘The Cobra’ stunned knowledgeable boxing figures when she beat Choi Hyun-Mi by split decision in April 2024. The Pyongyang pugilist had gone 21-0 in a career that had brought her world titles in three weights. But Camara went to Suwon in South Korea to dethrone the unbeaten star from the North.

It was a stunning away result from a fighter best-known for beating former world champion Heather Hardy and losing to Kali Reis in a WBA and WBO title challenge. One that helped earn Camara another world title crack. This time Caroline Dubois was the undefeated and intimidating home fighter the Canadian would challenge.

An accidental clash of heads led to a technical draw after three rounds, due to a cut to Camara. But it should be noted, Dubois had her on the deck in the first round and looked in complete control. Camara will carry the scars, literal and figurative, into arguably an even bigger challenge here.

Chantelle Cameron vs Jessica Camara Prediction

I feel comfortable picking Cameron here. Camara is tough and well-travelled but, Choi aside, she usually loses in this sort of class.

Meanwhile, Cameron has beaten very good names since succumbing to Taylor in their rematch. Elhem Mekhaled is a tough night for anyone while Patricia Berghult is a former WBC champion. ‘Il Capo’ scored decision victories over both.

Decisions tend to be the order of the day for Cameron lately. At lightweight she managed several impressive stoppages but in the 140lb category she tends to go the distance. Same again, another Cameron points win is the pick at 6/4.
