Bruce Carrington vs Enrique Vivas Fight Preview

In the eyes of many, ‘Shu Shu’ still has something to prove. The majority of his 14-0 record has been amassed with little trouble. Dominant victories have come against rookies and gatekeepers alike. But two fights ago, Carrington stepped up in class and many feel he was exposed in the process.

In September of last year, Carrington took on Sulaiman Segawa. The veteran had given good work to a laundry list of world class fighters. The Ugandan has beaten Ruben Villa and Elijah Pierce while giving tough nights to William Foster III, Abraham Nova and Jamaine Ortiz.

One of the most difficult tests Segawa has doled out is the one he gave Carrington. Most people who saw the fight concluded that he had done enough to pull off the upset. But the cards deemed ‘Shu Shu’ a majority decision victor. The unbeaten record was maintained, but something was lost in New York that night.

Carrington tried to get it back by fighting just two months later. Dana Coolwell was outpointed over eight rounds without much trouble. Outwardly, that did the trick. After all, Carrington walks into a fight here that theoretically puts him in line for a WBC title shot if he wins. But there is more to it.

Bruce Carrington vs Jose Enrique Durantes Vivas - Method Of Victory Carrington on Points

Odds correct at time of publishing.

Fans have not forgotten the Segawa performance. It is still a millstone around Carrington’s neck. A convincing win over Vivas should quieten the discontent. The Mexican is 23-3 with his defeats coming against very good fighters. Vivas has taken world title challengers like Joet Gonzalez and Eduardo Baez the distance. He will work Carrington hard.

As hard as Segawa, who came in with a similar reputation? Perhaps. That seems to be the idea. The Coolwell win got a cold reception from fans who saw it as a backward step. Vivas is a similar opponent to Segawa reputation-wise, though questions will persist due to this not being a straight rematch.

But if Carrington puts in a headline-grabbing display to land on the cusp of a world title shot, nobody will be talking about Segawa. The talk will return to Carrington’s status as a sure-fire hit. A future belt-holder. But if he huffs and puffs against another gatekeeper, the questions will grow cacophonous.

Bruce Carrington vs Enrique Vivas Prediction

I think we will see the best of Carrington here. ‘Shu Shu’ has no choice. Every prospect gets one let-off against a wily veteran. But if he struggles again in similar circumstances, even another questionable decision will not save his reputation.

I don’t think it will come to that. I reckon Carrington will win on the scorecards, but with clear daylight. I’m going for Bruce on points at 11/5.
