Alycia Baumgardner vs Jennifer Miranda Odds

Baumgardner is a whopping 1/33 to win this world title scrap. Miranda is chasing a huge upset at 10/1. The draw is 20/1, reflecting the fact this is not seen as a close match-up.

Alycia Baumgardner vs Jennifer Miranda Fight Preview

It has been a rough couple of years for the champion. A 2023 rematch with Christina Linardatou, the only boxer to have defeated her, was supposed to exorcise Baumgardner’s demons. But instead it merely added to them.

‘The Bomb’ retained her undisputed championship via unanimous decision, before adverse findings were revealed in her post-fight drug test. Baumgardner would be cleared by the WBC and Association of Boxing Commissions of “intentionally” ingesting the substance found in the sample. But by the time the matter was resolved she had been banned for 10 months.

In her comeback bout, Baumgardner and former world champion Delfine Persoon went to a No Contest due to a head clash in round four. Ohio’s Alycia must have felt like her career would never recapture the momentum she had enjoyed pre-ban.

This fight with Miranda is an attempt to do just that. The WBA interim champion comes in with a 12-0 record, but this is a fight of firsts for her. Miranda will be fighting outside of her native Spain for the first time. The 38-year-old will also be facing a genuine world class opponent for the first time in her career.

Baumgardner is not the sort to underestimate an underdog. Most thought the occasion would be too much for ‘The Bomb’ when she flew over to Sheffield to face Yorkshire girl Terri Harper for the WBC championship. Four savage rounds later, nobody would forget the name Alycia Baumgardner.

The Ohio native has forged a fine career in only the finest class since. Five title defences, four victories with the aforementioned Persoon No Contest. Baumgardner picked up the WBO, IBF and The Ring belts on the first major all-female card, at the O2 Arena against the top drawer Mikaela Mayer. It was a close fight and a hotly-debated decision but ‘The Bomb’ got her hand raised.

Alycia Baumgardner vs Jennifer Miranda - Method Of Victory Baumgardner by KO, TKO or DQ

A unanimous decision victory over Elhem Mekhaled was far more clear-cut, with Baumgardner scoring two knockdowns over the 10 rounds. This win netted her the vacant WBA belt and completed the undisputed championship. In doing so, Baumgardner became the first four-belt undisputed super featherweight champion in women’s boxing history.

Now she defends that designation on another historic night for the sport. This major event will be available to a gigantic worldwide audience of Netflix subscribers. After Taylor-Serrano II played second fiddle to the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson mess, now boxing’s elite women take centre stage. Baumgardner could be someone any watching casual fans come away as a big fan of.

An exciting style, a cool nickname, an elite skillset and the whiff of a comeback story. I don’t know about you, but I have certainly stayed up late watching Netflix films and television shows that promised a lot less than that.

Alycia Baumgardner vs Jennifer Miranda Prediction

This is an acid test for Miranda. She has been flawless at home, but light on power. The WBA interim queen has stopped just one of her 12 foes. By contrast, Baumgardner has knocked out half of her 14 victims. Considering that includes world champions like Harper, ‘The Bomb’ is to be feared.

I think Baumgardner might explode on the big stage. I can see her adding KO number eight to her resume against an opponent whose world class experience is nonexistent. Everyone starts somewhere, but at 38 you feel if Miranda was a true top-class competitor we would have seen it by now.

I’ll take Baumgardner to win the fight by knockout at 13/8. I think that the Ohio superstar will pick up a few fans in the process, too.
