Adam Azim gets the biggest test of his career on Saturday, October 19 against Ohara Davies. The super lightweight collision takes place at the Copper Box Arena in London as part of a bumper BOXXER card. Sky Sports Main Event will screen the action live.

Here are my Azim vs Davies predictions ahead of this fascinating encounter.

A true crossroads fight, this bout pitches one of the fastest-rising prospects in Britain against a boxer who has campaigned at world level. Azim is looking to extend his 11-0 record while Davies aims to reclaim his world ranking after a chastening defeat.

Azim has moved through the levels at perfect pace. The early journeymen foes were dispatched with aplomb. By his eighth fight, ‘The Assassin’ was taking the unbeaten record of hardened Nicaraguan Santos Reyes. The experienced Aram Faniian tasted his second career loss at Azim’s hand, setting up the youngster for a European title opportunity.

Azim took that chance in style, stopping well-travelled champion Franck Petitjean in 10 rounds. His first defence ended in five rounds, when undefeated Enock Poulsen pulled out with a shoulder injury. Still only 22, Azim now moves up in class to meet a man once touted as a future world champion.

Davies has boxed the very best 140 lb fighters in the world. His trio of defeats have come against Josh Taylor, Jack Catterall and Ismael Barroso. Davies also holds wins over Derry Mathews and Miguel Vazquez, who each won versions of a world title in their careers. While his record has been mixed, Davies has generally competed with the elite.

But his most recent outing has raised questions around Davies’ future. Everything looked set for ‘Two Tanks’ to ascend. The vacant interim WBA title was on the line as he faced 41-year-old veteran Ismael Barroso.

The seasoned campaigner had made an impact on English shores a decade ago, beating Kevin Mitchell before losing a WBA lightweight title challenge to Anthony Crolla. Barroso has stayed there or thereabouts in the years since his peak, giving good work to good fighters. The Venezuelan wins more than he loses, but most expected him to test Davies without troubling him too deeply.

Boxing is perhaps the most adept sport at scuppering the best laid plans. Rather than scoring an affirming victory over a fading-but-formidable name, Davies was knocked out in a single round by the resurgent old-stager. His dreams of finally holding a portion of the world crown eradicated in two minutes of savagery. Back to the drawing board.

You would have forgiven Davies for taking a tune-up after that. An evening of light work, maybe six rounds against a journeyman foe. But instead, ‘The Assassin’ goes in with one of the hottest prospects in British boxing. At the age of 32, Davies isn’t wasting any time.

Neither is Azim, who takes on this mammoth assignment for his 12th fight. This is a true litmus test, despite Davies’ mishap last time out. Both men will be hungry and each has everything to play for. A loss here will derail Azim’s ambitions at world level. A defeat for Davies could  relegate him to gatekeeper status. This is a fine piece of matchmaking and should make for an electric night at the Copper Box. The fight marks the start of Betfred's partnership with BOXXER and the link is certainly starting with a bang.

Adam Azim vs Ohara Davies Fight Odds

Azim is a 1/8 favourite in this one, a testament to the dominance he has shown so far in his career. Davies is your underdog at 5/1, a position he occupies at least partly due to that damaging Barroso defeat. If you fancy a draw here you can back that at 16/1.

Adam Azim vs Ohara Davies Prediction

I think we will witness Azim’s breakout performance here. All signs point to ‘The Assassin’ pulling off his biggest win yet. Davies is a big enough name to make some noise, but at a low ebb post-Barroso. I think Azim can exploit this.

My pick is Azim to take the win in rounds seven to 12 at 6/4. I just don’t see how Davies can trouble a 22-year-old who has taken everything thrown at him so far in his elegant stride.
