Dolphins vs cowboys

The Dolphins’ incredible 66-0 loss to the Sharks provides much of the pretext to Sunday’s NRL clash with the North Queensland Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium (4:05pm local, 7:05am BST, Watch NRL).

That stunning reverse has undermined the play-off hopes of Kristian Woolf’s side, whose recent eight-game winning run had them marked out as the comp’s form team. Here are my Dolphins vs Cowboys predictions, along with the latest team news and Betfred’s match odds.

Dolphins vs Cowboys Betting Tips

  • Dolphins by 13+ @ 21/10
  • Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow Anytime Tryscorer @ 10/11

Dolphins vs Cowboys Odds

The bookies aren’t reading too much into last week’s aberration for the Dolphins. Betfred has Redcliffe as the 4/6 favourites to collect the two competition points.

The Cowboys are 13/10, and the draw is an 18/1 shot.

Team News

Ex-St Helens head coach Woolf has three big names returning, but the inclusions of Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Selwyn Cobbo and Jack Bostock are partly offset by Jake Averillo’s absence with a rib injury.

Tevita Naufahu moves down to the bench, and Trai Fullow is dropped from the initial 19.

Rugby League Odds

North Queensland bring in Griffin Neame at prop for Tom Mikaele, who has a head injury.

John Bateman misses out with a hamstring injury, so Kai O’Donnell is included among the substitutes.

Kaiden Lahrs could get his first NRL action since March from the interchamge bench.

Dolphins by 13+ @ 21/10

I had the Sharks down to make the most of the six-point handicap last week, but there is no way I – or anyone – would have predicted a 66-0 battering for the Dolphins.

Woolf was at a loss for words regarding his side’s performance, and after apologising for what his skipper Tom Gilbert said was an “embarrassing” display, the Tonga national coach will have made sure that training was on point at every turn during the week.

As a result, I expect a big response. He was at pains to point out after the Cronulla game that over the previous 11 matches their combined deficit in losses was four points, and it is more likely that we will see that Dolphins side rather than the one which surrendered at Kayo Stadium.

So I’m willing to go big with the Phins and pick up the 21/10 about them having a three-score advantage come full-time.

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow Anytime Tryscorer @ 10/11

While North Queensland are a handy outfit who have outdone almost all expectations this season, I just can’t see past a Dolphins win.

And having the ‘Hammer’ back in their lineup is huge for the hosts. His eight tries in 12 this season tell only part of the story of the impact he supplies from the full-back position.

I more than fancy him to cross at any time in this one, so the 10/11 attached to him in this market is more than enticing.
