NAP time, dear reader. Tuesday's best bet runs in the lucky last at Carlisle, the 20:42, and at time of writing the selection is a very attractive price indeed.

So, without further ado as they say, here's the science bit ...

20:42 Carlisle - Hatamoto @ 9/2

Carlisle's finale on their six-race evening offering is a 9f Class 5 handicap, for three-year-olds.

The one that catches my eye is Tim Easterby's Tasleet gelding Hatamoto, out of a Beat Hollow mare. The sire was all about speed, taking the 6f G2 Duke of York on the Knavesmire, on soft ground, by a comfortable 2.5l.

Beat Hollow and the dam Vote Often also shone brightly with juice in the ground, but rather more at the kind of trip being tackled tonight and even a smidge further, so lots to like on that front with the predicted going being soft.

Carlisle is a stiff track - one of the stiffest, with a steep pull to the line - and course familiarity is a massive bonus. Hatamoto ran here two starts ago over a furlong less in a slightly lower grade, and was a 1.5l second of 10, running on.

His opening mark of 55 was in place for that run, his handicap debut, and when last seen two weeks ago he perhaps found 7f too short when never quite getting to grips with the principals, on good to firm.

Up in trip then, on ground and at a track he's already appreciated once (and is bred to handle this surface), the chance of Hatamoto to me at least is obvious; and the opening mark of 55 is again on display tonight despite showing clear promise so far that on another day might have encouraged the assessor to sneak another pound or two on top.

He's up to Class 5 company admittedly, but this is an ordinary-looking affair and trainer Tim had a winner here yesterday. Duran Fentiman has the riding assignment, on board for the first three of his five runs, and our pick gets the lovely racing weight of 8st 8lb; receiving chunks from likely market rivals Unchartedterritory and Clocker.

Looking forward to seeing this one - hope it's worth the wait!
