Bristol vs Saracens Prediction: Well-timed win looks likely for Saracens

Injuries continue to pile up for Bristol, yet they remain in the play-off running, beginning the weekend a point outside the top four in the Gallagher Prem standings. The Bears' record at Ashton Gate is propelling their post-season push, and they will aim to record a seventh home win from eight games when Saracens visit on Saturday (17:30 BST, live on TNT Sports 1).

Sarries went into the Prem's weekend off due to the European semi-finals sitting sixth in the table after battering Sale Sharks 85-19 and edging Leicester Tigers 19-15 in their last two fixtures. After a mid-season slump, they look to be coming good at the right time. Although six points behind their hosts, Saracens might be about to expose Bristol's widespread injury issues. Read on for my Bristol vs Saracens predictions.

Bristol vs Saracens Odds

Saracens are 4/5 to inflict a second home defeat of the season on 11/10 Bristol. A tie is 16/1 with the three-way handicap set at a point, with Sarries -1 available at 10/11.

Team News

Harry Thacker starts at hooker for Bristol, replacing the injured Gabriel Oghre, who will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury.

Ben Grondona has also been sidelined for the foreseeable future and is replaced at number eight by his brother Santiago.

Among the Bears' other changes, Kalaveti Ravouvou is named at right wing, but they have 15 players unavailable, including Steven Luatua, AJ MacGinty and Louis Rees-Zammit.

Nick Isiekwe starts at blindside flanker for Saracens, the first time he has worn the six shirt in over two years, while Theo McFarland is named on the bench following the birth of his first child.

Owen Farrell is also among the replacements, with Fergus Burke continuing to run the sign from fly-half.

Saracens -5 @ 5/4

With four rounds to go, Saracens are looming ominously. They are not the team they were, winning three Champions Cup in four seasons between 2016 and 2019.

However, they have additional motivation with director of rugby Mark McCall already confirming his departure at the end of the season, having taken over from Brendan Venter in 2011.

After 15 years away, Venter will rejoin the club in the summer and there appears to have been an attempt by Sarries to move on from their past glories.

Having first had Farrell playing outside him before being usurped as the team's chief playmaker, Burke appears to be thriving now that the number 10 jersey is seemingly his, and Farrell has to settle for an impact role.

Burke masterminded his team's 50-17 win in October's reverse game, which was the London club's ninth straight victory over Saturday's opponents.

With winnable home games Gloucester and Harlequins to come before a final day trip to the Exeter Chiefs, Saracens have a chance to build momentum and could have too much for Bristol.

The Bears beat Gloucester 53-12 and Newcastle Red Bulls 52-19 in their last two games but their injury list is shocking and has to catch up with them eventually.
