The 2026 LPGA season is heading into its second event of the year and our golf tipster Jamie Worsley is already enjoying a profitable start to the campaign as Lydia Ko came home fourth last time out for his 14/1 each-way bet (1/4 4 Places) came in.

Three weeks removed from a chaotic curtain-raiser at the Tournament of Champions, the LPGA shifts up a gear as its three-event East Asia swing gets underway, starting with the Honda LPGA Thailand at Siam Country Club's Old Course.

TOURNAMENT HISTORY

The LPGA visited Thailand for the first time in 2006, when the first edition of the Honda LPGA Thailand was held at Amata Springs Country Club. It moved to Siam Country Club's Old Course the following year and, excluding 2009, every other renewal has been staged here.

Amy Yang is the most successful player in the tournament's history with three victories, coming in 2015, 2017 and 2019. LPGA legend Yani Tseng is the only other person to win it more than once, claiming back-to-back triumphs in 2011/2012.

Last five winners:

  • 2025

Winner: Angel Yin (-28)

Runner-up: Akie Iwai (-27)

  • 2024

Winner: Patty Tavatanakit (-21)

Runner-up: Albane Valenzuela (-20)

  • 2023

Winner: Lilia Vu (-22)

Runner-up: Natthakritta Vongtaveelap (-21)

  • 2022

Winner: Nanna Madsen (-26, playoff)

Runner-up: Xiyu Lin (-26)

  • 2021

Winner: Ariya Jutanugarn (-22)

Runner-up: Jeeno Thitikul (-21)

Angel Yin won her second LPGA title at Siam Country Club last year, setting the record winning score with her 28-under-par total. She returns to defend this week.

THE COURSE

Siam Country Club – Old Course

  • Original architect / Year opened: Isao Mazumi / 1971
  • Latest renovation: Curley/Schmidt design team completed an extensive upgrade of the course in 2007, which included a tree removal program to open up the playing corridors
  • Par / Yardage: Par 72 / 6649 yards
  • Hole breakdown:
  • 4x par 3s (155-187 yards)
  • 10x par 4s (320-421 yards)
  • 4x par 5s (512-544 yards)
  • Course style: Tree-lined yet spacious parkland that provides players with a straightforward and scoreable challenge
  • Fairways:
  • Average-width paspalum fairways
  • Some strategic bunkering but rarely troubles players, nor does the tame rough
  • Greens:
  • Large, undulating, and predominantly raised bermudagrass greens
  • Could roll at a speedy 12-12.5 on the Stimp if weather allows
  • They showcase plenty of variety in shape and size, enabling them to tuck pin positions behind bunkers
  • Defences: Getting a feel for the greens is the main difficulty, especially if fast
  • Average winning score: -22.3 (last 10 editions)

Siam Country Club's Old Course is an attractive and well-maintained venue, offering a generous, birdie-friendly layout that eases players into the new season.

THE WEATHER

There has been plenty of rain in the build-up to this week's event, which should soften the course up. That said, it isn't forecast to stick around during the tournament, and with sunshine, temperatures of over 30°C, and a constant 8-12mph breeze, it could firm up a little by Sunday.

KEY STATS

SG: Approach / Greens-in-Regulation (GIR)

SG: Off-the-Tee (SG: OTT) / Driving Distance

With penalties at a minimum, this is a venue that tempts players to take the driver out at every opportunity, often playing into the hands of the longest hitters in the field.

  • Angel Yin (Winner): 7th in driving distance
  • Akie Iwai (2nd): 15th in SG: OTT / 5th in driving distance

SG: Putting (bermudagrass)

Birdie-or-Better %

While the long game typically carries the most importance, few players manage to get over the line in a birdie-fest without a solid week on the greens. Therefore, proven bermudagrass putters are respected.

CORRELATING EVENTS (COURSES)

HSBC Women's World Championship (Sentosa Golf Club – Tanjong Course)

With generous fairways, large, undulating bermudagrass greens, and playing conditions that often mirror what we see in Thailand, Sentosa Golf Club's Tanjong Course is a strong comp for this week's test.

Notable correlating form:

  • Ariya Jutanugarn: Honda LPGA (1st) / HSBC WWC (2nd)
  • Patty Tavatanakit:  Honda LPGA (1st, 3rd) / HSBC WWC (3rd)

  • Jenny Shin: Honda LPGA (4th) / HSBC WWC (2nd)

Meijer LPGA Classic (Blythefield Country Club)

Blythefield Country Club is another venue where the lack of penalty allows the field to be aggressive and rack up birdies. Fairways are of a similar width and with quick, raised greens to boot, it's worth checking out players with form there.

Notable correlating form:

  • Lilia Vu: Honda LPGA (1st) / Meijer (1st)
  • Lexi Thompson: Honda LPGA (1st, 2nd) / Meijer (1st, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd)
  • Ariya Jutanugarn: Honda LPGA (1st) / Meijer (2nd)
  • Amy Yang: Honda LPGA (1st, 1st, 1st) / Meijer (3rd)

  • Brooke Henderson: Honda LPGA (4th, 6th, 7th) / Meijer (1st, 1st)

CME Group Tour Championship (Tiburon Golf Club – Gold Course)

Tiburon's Gold Course has also produced its fair share of birdie-fests in recent years. With wide corridors to tempt longer hitters, and large, quick and raised bermudagrass greens, the demands mirror Siam Country Club.

Notable correlating form:

  • Ariya Jutanugarn: Honda LPGA (1st) / Tour Championship (1st)
  • Amy Yang: Honda LPGA (1st, 1st, 1st) / Tour Championship (1st)
  • Lexi Thompson: Honda LPGA (1st, 2nd) / Tour Championship (1st, 2nd)
  • Jessica Korda: Honda LPGA (1st) / Tour Championship (2nd)
  • Angel Yin: Honda LPGA (1st, 3rd) / Tour Championship (2nd)
  • Lilia Vu: Honda LPGA (1st) / Tour Championship (4th)
  • Jeeno Thitikul: Honda LPGA (2nd, 3rd, 3rd) / Tour Championship (1st, 1st)
  • Sei Young Kim: Honda LPGA (3rd, 3rd) / Tour Championship (1st)
  • Celine Boutier: Honda LPGA (3rd, 4th) / Tour Championship (3rd)

Buick LPGA Shanghai (Qizhong Garden Golf Club)

The Buick LPGA Shanghai is usually played in conditions similar to what we find in Thailand. Alongside a generous driving test that again favours lengthy drivers, it's no surprise that Qizhong Garden Golf Club has struck up some eye-catching crossover form with the Old Course.

Notable correlating form:

  • Angel Yin: Honda LPGA (1st, 3rd) / Buick LPGA (1st)
  • Lilia Vu: Honda LPGA (1st) / Buick LPGA (2nd)
  • Jessica Korda: Honda LPGA (1st) / Buick LPGA (2nd)
  • Ariya Jutanugarn: Honda LPGA (1st) / Buick LPGA (2nd, 3rd)
  • Jeeno Thitikul: Honda LPGA (2nd, 3rd, 3rd) / Buick LPGA (1st)
  • Minjee Lee: Honda LPGA (2nd, 4th) / Buick LPGA (3rd)
  • Sei Young Kim: Honda LPGA (3rd, 3rd) / Buick LPGA (2nd, 2nd)
  • Hye Jin Choi: Honda LPGA (3rd) / Buick LPGA (3rd, 5th)

Portland Classic (Columbia Edgewater Country Club)

Last up is Columbia Edgewater Country Club. Despite being densely tree-lined, the course is spacious and non-penal, enabling players to score heavily throughout.

Notable correlating form:

  • Angel Yin: Honda LPGA (1st, 3rd) / Portland (2nd)
  • Lilia Vu: Honda LPGA (1st) / Portland (3rd)
  • Patty Tavatanakit: Honda LPGA (1st) / Portland (5th)

  • Carlota Ciganda: Honda LPGA (3rd) / Portland (3rd)
  • Brooke Henderson: Honda LPGA (4th, 6th, 7th) / Portland (1st, 1st)

THE FIELD

World No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul tops a strong group of entries this week. Miyu Yamashita (No. 5) and Lydia Ko (No. 6) are the next highest-ranked players in a field that includes seven of the top 10, and 21 of the top 25 in total.

Angel Yin returns to defend and is one of just three former winners in attendance, joined by Nanna Madsen (2022) and Ariya Jutanugarn (2021).

The Korean trio of Jin Young Ko, Sei Young Kim, and Hyo Joo Kim each make their first appearances of 2026; Thailand's current second-best amateur Prim Prachnakorn gets the chance to impress in front of a home crowd; and highly-rated U.S. youngster Gianna Clemente makes her professional debut.

SELECTIONS

Market leaders: Jeeno Thitikul 18/5, Sei Young Kim 14/1, Akie Iwai 14/1, Lydia Ko 16/1, Nasa Hataoka 16/1, Miyu Yamashita 16/1

Brooke Henderson

Finishing 3rd at the season-opening Tournament of Champions, Brooke Henderson has carried the positive play she was producing at the end of 2025 into the new year. The Canadian now arrives at a course where she's hit the top 10 four times, and with comp form in abundance, she's a standout candidate in Thailand.

Henderson won her 14th LPGA title back in August, claiming the CPKC Women's Open on home turf. She teed it up six more times following that and didn't finish outside the top 30, closing out the campaign with a 7th at the CME Group Tour Championship.

After opening rounds of 73 and 70, she ended the Tournament of Champions with a 66 to finish 3rd; her long game and putting both looking sharp. This mirrors how she performed for much of last year, but it's with the driver she typically excels, ranking 12th in SG: OTT thanks to an enviable blend of power and precision.

Henderson has made seven appearances at Siam Country Club, and with finishes of 4th, 6th, 7th and 9th, it is evidently a layout that suits her eye. A two-time champion at both the Meijer LPGA Classic and the Portland Classic, alongside three top-five finishes at the HSBC Women's World Championship, her record at comp courses only strengthens the case for another strong showing.

Ruoning Yin

Ruoning Yin hasn't quite taken to this venue on her two visits so far, but with eye-catching form at correlating events, I see no reason why she can't put that right this week. Her game looked in decent shape at the Tournament of Champions, and having won her last two LPGA titles in scores of -23 and -25, we know she has the ability to go seriously low.

Although she failed to add another trophy to her cabinet in 2025, Yin still impressed during her limited schedule, finishing 2nd at the Chevron Championship and 4th at the U.S. Women's Open. She was also performing soundly at the end of the year, hitting the top 20 on her final three appearances.

The Chinese major winner shook the cobwebs away with a 17th-place finish at Lake Nona three weeks ago, where she shone with her tee-to-green game, ranking 4th. Her ball-striking in particular gives her every chance around this layout, ranking 5th in SG: Approach and 37th in SG: OTT in 2025.

Yin was 58th on her Siam Country Club debut in 2024 but improved considerably last year, finishing 26th. She shot a record 25-under-par to win the correlating Buick LPGA Shanghai by an incredible six shots in 2024, and alongside a 3rd in Portland, I'm confident she can take another step forward at this event.

Auston Kim

Auston Kim has made steady progress over her first two seasons on the LPGA, and I believe she's now ready to make that leap into the winner's circle in 2026. After a 14th-place finish on her first try last year, this looks as good a place as any to test that theory for this elite, power-packed driver.

There was plenty to like about Kim's results last year, as she made the cut in four of the five majors and recorded four top-10s overall. An excellent runner-up finish at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship was no doubt her finest moment. She then ended the year on a high, finishing 4th at The ANNIKA and 7th at the CME Group Tour Championship on her final two appearances.

She was steady at the Saudi Ladies International last week, firing four under-par rounds to finish 36th. Like this week's host, that's a venue where she can make her prowess with the driver count, ranking 9th in SG: OTT and 3rd in driving distance on the LPGA in 2025.

The American is also a solid putter who made gains in approach last season, which helped her score heavier than most, ranking 6th in birdie-or-better %.

Kim's encouraging effort at Siam Country Club saw her shoot every round under par, with a second-round 65 a particular highlight. She drove it well and looked comfortable on these greens, ranking 11th and 18th respectively. Having also finished 11th and 12th on two starts at the Buick LPGA Shanghai, this looks the ideal spot for her to earn that breakthrough success.

Jennifer Kupcho

I was tempted by excellent putter Hannah Green, but I feel she may just be lacking in sharpness compared to many here. Instead, I'm going to take a chance on Jennifer Kupcho bouncing back from her poor start to the season at the Tournament of Champions, at a course where she's gone well in the past.

Kupcho's 2025 came to life at the Shoprite Classic in June, where she claimed the fourth LPGA victory of her career. She maintained a high level of form following that, recording six top-25s in 11 outings, including a 2nd-place finish at The ANNIKA on her third most-recent start.

She was 34th of 39 players at Lake Nona, but that event and its unique atmosphere is one that she has not yet got to grips with. The major plus is that she now has three rounds under her belt and will not be quite as rusty this week.

Kupcho's excellence with the driver – ranking 13th in SG: OTT and 15th in driving distance in 2025 – has guided her to finishes of 6th and 11th in four attempts at Siam Country Club. She's also a reliable putter who hits tonnes of greens – a skillset that helped her to rank 7th in birdie-or-better % last year.

As a former winner of the Meijer LPGA Classic, her comp form also stacks up and having been priced much higher than several players who remain unproven at this level, she represents value in this limited field.
