Ricky Evans highest checkout over 100.5 vs James Wade @ 4/7

I said it before and I’ll say it again, it wouldn’t be a World Championship without Ricky Evans, would it? His first round win over Man Lok Leung is arguably the most complete performance he’s ever had on the Ally Pally stage. Rapid Ricky averaged 92 in the end but was averaging high 90s across the opening two sets, he ended up getting the job done in straight sets which is a rarity for him as he’s been known to do things the difficult way in the past.

Wade’s passage to the second round was equally as routine, with James cruising to a 3-0 victory against another Asian in Ryusei Azemoto. It’s a place where Wade has really struggled to find his best form over the years, that was The Machine’s first win here since 2021. Wadey averaged 91 and dropped just one leg in the entire match.

As I did in the first round, I’m again going to focus on ton plus checkouts where Ricky is involved. Rapid took out an excellent 134 finish in his win over Man Lok Leung. That’s now eight of the last eleven matches here that Evans has took out a 121+ checkout, an absolutely brilliant return on that front. I think this has the potential to go four, maybe even five sets, so there’ll be numerous chances for Evans to take out a 101+ checkout which is well within his capabilities.

Over 3.5 sets in David Munyua vs Kevin Doets @ 11/10

What a story it’s been so far for David Munyua and what a victory it is for African darts! Munyua sent the Ally Pally crowd into delirium on Thursday afternoon when he incredibly came back from two sets down to defeat number 18 seed Mike De Decker. It without doubt went down as one of the biggest highlights of the 1st round and as a 20/1 outsider pre-match, has to go down as one of the biggest upsets in the history of the World Championship.

Doets wasn’t at his best against Matthew Dennant but done enough in the end to win 3-1. The Dutchman will look to emulate his run last year where he made the last 16 and possibly better it.

Doets’ stats are evidently well clear of Munyua, but at the World Championship, it’s not solely about the stats. The crowd played a big part in Munyua’s first game, with De Decker later claiming that they put him off. If anything, the crowd will be even louder in Munyua’s favour this time and it’s something Doets will have to contend with, something I don’t think he’s ever experienced to that extent. Although I think Doets will have too much scoring power and should win, I think Munyua could have enough in the tank to pinch a set, if he starts well then the crowd could come into play in this one. We’ve seen many favourites drop sets already and Why Not will come here with a swagger in his step now.
