2 units Ross Smith each-way (1/2 - 2 Places) @ 16/1

We’ve not had much luck with Ross this year in terms of being on him at the right time. But I can’t get away from him this week after a quite stunning victory at Players Championship 16 - Smudger didn’t drop a single leg over his last three matches in the tournament, with a combined scoreline of 21-0 against Brendan Dolan, Luke Woodhouse and Danny Noppert. He also recorded averages of 106, 105 and 105 on that run, on top of not one but two nine-dart legs over the course of the day.

It’s safe to say he was playing to a consistently good level before that win too and it didn’t come as much of a surprise, the only thing missing before was that high level at the business end of an event but it all came together in Hildesheim.

His recent form on the European Tour is another plus, having made the QFs or further in four of the six events in 2025 so far. Including making the final of the Austrian Darts Open, where he was second best to Schindler, but can take confidence from that run.

He’s yet to add a regular European Tour event to his CV but he has made three finals in his last sixteen European Tour appearances, suggesting there’s some worthy each way value to be had here at 16/1.

2 units Josh Rock each-way (1/2 - 2 Places) @ 16/1

Josh Rock is another who looks ready to strike on the European Tour this year, the level he’s producing on a regular basis recently is definitely worthy of a title on the stage, much like Smith it’s bound to come together for him soon if he keeps up the form.

'Rocky' currently sits fourth in the world for overall averages in 2025 at 98.48, amongst the absolute elite scorers. The young Northern Irishman has averaged 100+ in 17 of his last 26 matches, which tells you everything you need to know about how he’s playing.

Josh decided to give the last couple of Pro Tour events a miss in Hildesheim, giving him most of May off and he should come here fully refreshed and prepared. He won this event last year and looks in good shape to make a strong defence of his title. He saw off the likes of Gerwyn Price, Jonny Clayton and Martin Schindler last year and will need to repeat similar level of victories this time round with the likes of Chris Dobey, Schindler and Stephen Bunting in his quarter of the draw.

He’s arguably the best player on tour not to have won a big stage title this year at the moment and this may be the time to end that.
