Northampton’s Kieron Conway gets a well-deserved crack at the vacant British middleweight championship this Saturday, May 16, as he takes on Gerome Warburton. The fight takes place at the Copper Box Arena in London as chief support to Johnny Fisher’s heavyweight rematch with Dave Allen. DAZN will televise the fight live, with Conway’s Commonwealth middleweight crown also on the line.

Kieron Conway vs Gerome Warburton Fight Preview
We like our boxers to be unapologetic and unafraid. To be willing to take on every challenge put in front of them. But sometimes doing so can slow a career down. That is the case with Conway, whose propensity to fight anyone and everyone put in front of him has perhaps stalled his title progress.
Conway aims to win his first British title, having come agonisingly close to winning the super welterweight version in a 2019 draw with the excellent Ted Cheeseman. That fight was a move up in levels for Conway, who acquitted himself well against one of the finest domestic boxers of the day.
Conway has never really stopped going through the gears. Apart from a three-round decision loss to Derrick Osaze on one of the old Ultimate BOXXER tournament shows, his only two defeats have come on the road against world-ranked fighters.
Conway lost a split decision to Soulemayne Cissokho in Texas back in 2021, knocking him down in the process. The Frenchman is now the mandatory challenger for the WBC welterweight championship. Conway’s other conqueror, Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams, is ranked by three of the four sanctioning bodies and considered a sure-fire future world champion.
Conway’s forays into world class means that this British middleweight title chance has come late. But not too late, at the age of 29. Winning the Commonwealth championship last time out in a tight one with the quality Ryan Kelly showed his class. Now Conway’s first defence of that belt doubles up as a chance to unify.
Warburton is another fighter who has waited patiently for this shot. Winner via split decision in an eliminator with unbeaten Aaron Sutton over a year ago, Warburton had to come through his own tricky night against Kelly to keep his position. Warburton drew with ‘Ruthless’ to keep this dream alive and now it’s finally here.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
The incredibly-named ‘The Bread Maker’ will have learned a lot in those two outings. Before them, he had never boxed over the 10 round distance. Emerging from those fights will do Warburton a world of good.
Conway is a whole different kettle of fish though. A man who has stared down big fighters in big fights as far afield as Las Vegas and Osaka. Who has boxed 10 rounds or more on eight occasions. Conway is a gigantic step-up in that context. Warburton absolutely deserves this shot, but you will not find many tougher opponents for a British title tilt.

Kieron Conway vs Gerome Warburton Prediction
A good fight this one. Two fighters well worthy of the shot and on an arena stage, which always adds a bit of spice. I do think this night suits Conway. He is used to big fights, used to long fights and used to the big stage.
I like Conway here, in another of those fights that goes to the championship rounds. I think Warburton will go the full 12 rounds for the first time in his career. At the end, I think Conway has his hand raised by decision at 8/11.
