The action continues across China on Thursday as the ATP Shanghai Masters reaches the quarter-final stage while the WTA Wuhan Open is into the round of 16.

Carlos Alcaraz has responded to his shock US Open second-round loss to Botic van de Zandschulp by winning 12 consecutive matches but the World No.2 will have to have his wits about him if he's to avoid a slip-up against Tomas Machac.

Alcaraz was a brilliant winner in Beijing but his opponent is also in excellent form, winning six of his last seven matches including a three-set triumph over Tommy Paul in the previous round in Shanghai.

Machac took a set off Alcaraz in the Davis Cup last month before injuries intervened and he looks worth a bet getting 4.5 games on the handicap.

Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff are both still standing in Wuhan but those two big guns could have to watch out for Beatriz Haddad Maia, who can move on to the quarter-finals with a straight-sets win over Magdalena Frech.

Both players are in fine form but Haddad Maia has won all three meetings with the Polish player - and the two most recent in straight sets.

A Korea Open champion last month, Haddad Maia has eased into the last 16 and can continue her smooth passage with another 2-0 victory over Frech.
