World Grand Prix Day 4 Betting Tips

  • Mike de Decker +0.5 Most 180s Handicap @ 4/9
  • Dave Chisnall to beat Dimitri van den Bergh @ 8/13

Boosted double @ 6/4 7/4

Mike de Decker +0.5 Most 180s Handicap @ 4/9

I was suitably impressed by Mike in his win over Damon Heta and in my opinion it was his best televised performance to date. I’m a pretty avid follower of the Belgian on the Pro Tour, so it was good to see him take that floor game onto the big stage and look more settled. He had to withstand some great darts from Heta who averaged 94.5 himself, but eventually managed to battle his way to a 2-1 win with a 92 average.

A set or two for De Decker are not beyond the realms of possibility, however, I’m deciding to focus on his 180s instead incase the occasion gets the better of him, which would likely be exposed in his doubles as opposed to the scoring phase.

De Decker and Gary Anderson both hit three 180s each in three sets each in the opening round. The pair are two of the biggest 180 hitters on tour - over the last 12 months, Anderson is averaging 0.39 180s per leg, De Decker averaging 0.35 per leg, so not a massive difference. When the first dart goes in the treble 20 for The Real Deal, he is one of those players where it feels inevitable they’re going to hit a maximum. So if he can land that first dart in T20 with some regularity then he wont have trouble hitting a fair few.

I’ve took the +0.5 handicap on it for a wee bit of insurance, so if he equals or betters Anderson’s 180 count, the bet will be settled as a winner.

Dave Chisnall to beat Dimitri van den Bergh @ 8/13

Really tasty fixture for the last 16 this, one of the better ones. Dimitri somewhat surprised me in all honesty with a strong showing in his 2-1 win over Luke Woodhouse, he averaged 97 despite hitting only 35% on his finishing doubles. 48% on his starting doubles did help, although I’m not sure he’ll be as successful in that stat again this time.

Chizzy had a much easier path to the last 16 as he brushed aside Cameron Menzies 2-0, without dropping a single leg. Chiz was 60% on his starting doubles which was perhaps better than some expected and averaged 91, pretty impressive when you consider not much was coming back at him the other way.

I find this reputation Dave has for his doubles supposedly being poor a bit of a myth to be honest, over the last 12 months he’s hit 39.54% on his doubles, a lot stronger than the 35.37% his opponent Dimitri has hit in that time. In my books, Chizzy is generally the stronger doubles hitter and heavier scorer of the two, albeit it looks a tight match on paper, I reckon Dave is just a big stronger in most aspects of the game.

I’d say he’s more likely to repeat his 1st round performance than Dimi is and 8/13 is more than a fair price for him to win.

The Betfred traders have boosted the double from 6/4  out to 7/4, which you can load directly to betslip below.
