We are hitting our stride here in the US Racing Tips column as not only did our Nap win yesterday but our each-way pick from Betfred's Extra Place Races also paid out.

Our attempt to net us a fourth Nap of the Day winner in a row takes us north of the border to Canada, whilst our Extra Place Race selection is the rank outsider in the US Pools...

Nap of the Day:

Three wins on the spin for our US Racing Nap of the Day as Dontlookbackatall came home to win the Power by Far Stakes at Parx. He was heavily backed over in the US Pools, having opened at 9/5, he went off as the 1/5 favourite. Fair to say he was heavily fancied for the win.

Today we look to make it four winners on the trot with a trip to Canada and Assiniboia Downs, where the short-priced favourite based on the US Pools in the 02:00 will be Not Afraid.

This six-year-old has enjoyed a stellar career having won in more than 50% of his races but his two outings so far in 2024 have been significantly below what we’ve come to expect. History does tell us though that he takes a race or two to knock the rust off before coming good each season and I’m looking for the same to happen here.

At his best, he should comfortably win here looking at the top Speed Figures of his fellow entries. The only question is whether that rust has been knocked off and his showing last time out was a good step ahead of his first race of 2024, where he just never had the stamina to keep going having been placed well early.

In a small field of lower-quality horses, this looks like a very soft landing spot to get the season up and running. I’m not expecting outstanding odds but if we can get 1/1, I’d take that all day long.

Extra Place Bet of the Day:

Yesterday also went swimmingly for this portion of the column as Shoresy did place, finishing third behind Teshima and Mille Dreams. I would have nailed the Forecast Bet on that one.

The Betfred International Races section is chock-full of Extra Place Races to bet on this evening from the US and Canada, which gives us plenty of cards to take a look at.

I desperately wanted to play the 20:50 at Thistledown because six of the seven entries faced one another just three weeks ago, so it would have offered a great insight how that one might play out. I didn’t though like anyone enough to pull the trigger.

Instead, it is the 21:20 at Fairmount Park that has caught my eye where the rank outsider in the pools State side might be a genuine bet to hit the board.

Mon Ami Fuzzie has a solid enough career record, four wins from 43 is nothing too spectacular but he’s also hit the board another 15 times. So 19 top-three finishes isn’t half bad at all.

We are seeing his Speed Figures go down for this six-year-old but he has placed in three of his seven starts this season, so if he does go off as the rank outsider at odds of anything like 10/1, then an each-way play looks fair enough.

Talis Park Grad comes into this one on a four-race winning streak and he’ll rightly be priced-up as the favourite. He was a strong consideration for the Nap of the Day as well, so feel free to have a nibble straight-up there.
