US Racing Nap of the Day: Back Momma Kim to win again

Our return to the US Racing tipping content didn’t start off with a bang and to say it was a whimper would be probably over-selling it, yet Rome wasn’t built in a day and if we got them all right, we’d be living the life of Millionaires and trust me, I’m not.

Back to the regularly scheduled programming though as I pick out my Nap of the Day from the action State side and throw in my best each-way Extra Place Race Bet of the Day for good measure…

*Note: The Penn National race still hadn't been priced-up as of 15:30 but we expect Momma Kim to open at 9/4.

Nap of the Day:

We are double-dipping in the Keystone State today with both our Nap of the Day and our Extra Place Bet of the Day and we start with our most fancied winner of Tuesday’s action over in the States.

That distinction goes to Momma Kim, a three-year-old filly who is taking to the track in the 23:43 at Penn National later this evening. She has already been pretty heavily-raced in her young career, with two wins and two second-place finishes on the resume.

Her speed however has clearly looked best on the turf and that is the surface she’ll be racing on today.

Last time out, she dominated a one-mile race here at Penn National, putting up the best speed figures she’s shown so far and looked every bit the daughter of Noble Mission, the multiple Group 1 winner over in the UK and France.

Trainer Douglas Nunn is enjoying the best win percentage of his career. Heading into this one, he has a 16% win rate in 2024, with five wins from 31 starts, two of which have been from this horse. Momma Kim looks to be the best in his stable and she has every opportunity to put up a second win at Penn National in just 12 days.

Extra Place Bet of the Day:

Plenty of Extra Place Races from Betfred today, where we are paying out for three places rather than two in seven-horse fields.

The one that has immediately caught my eye is the three-year-old filly Peach Pass, who is making her first appearance on the track this afternoon in the 19:48 at Presque Isle Downs.

Whilst her breezes at the track haven’t been all that spectacular, she looked to have good speed in training runs down at Tampa Bay Downs earlier in the year on the dirt.

Obviously, we are on the all-weather up in Pennsylvania and that might make a difference but she was sired by Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Mucho Macho Man and her trainer Kevin Rice is one of the hottest at the track this season, placing 16 times in 25 starts, including six winners. Those are the types of bloodlines and hot streaks that I like when looking for a bit of longshot value in an Extra Place Race.
