Newbury Racecourse

There's plenty of racing in store in Britain on Tuesday, with four scheduled meetings taking place. Among them is an early evening Flat card from Newbury, with seven races down for decision from 16:22-19:50 on ground forecast to be 'good to firm'.

My Newbury tips includes one for trainer Steph Hollinshead following a good effort in a hot race at Newmarket last time.

Newbury Tips

  • 16:22 – Celebrating Ethel e/w @ 13/2
  • 18:05 – Marhaba Million @ 4/1
  • 19:15 – Royal Musketeer e/w @ 11/1

16:22 – Celebrating Ethel e/w @ 13/2

The first of Today's Horse Races at Newbury is an apprentice handicap in which the likes of Hot Team and Golden Phase come into the contest in winning for and Laser Focus off the back of a near miss last time, but preference is for Goodwood eye-catcher CELEBRATING ETHEL instead for the Tony Carroll yard.

The Gleneagles mare is 1-10 on grass, scoring last summer over 1m1f at Leopardstown for previous connections.

She's now had three runs for this firm and the best of those came at the Sussex venue earlier this month over 1m2f.

That also came in apprentice company and after getting outpaced when they turned for home, she then met some traffic woes before ultimately staying on to finish fifth, beaten under three-lengths at the post and never nearer to the main protagonists.

She's off the same mark now and, on that evidence, she looks well ready for what is going to be just a second run at this sort of distance.

This is a Super Extra Place Race, so Betfred are paying 4 places instead of 3 at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets.

18:05 – Marhaba Million @ 4/1

Owen Burrows should be feeling good about the prospects of MARHABA MILLION as the Galileo colt prepares to step out in handicap company for the first time in his career.

Well beaten in a Wolverhampton maiden on debut in April, he stepped forward from that when fourth over 1m3f in a maiden at this track the same month that was won by the very impressive next-time-out Chester Vase scorer Hidden Law.

From there, it was on to Salisbury and a silver medal in a heavy-ground maiden upped to a 1m4f behind a now 88-rated winner.

Debuting in this sphere of 88, and with the application of a first-time visor to help, Marhaba Million also has the positive of champion jockey William Buick in the saddle and they are taken to bag this contest.

19:15 – Royal Musketeer e/w @ 11/1

Rounding off our trio is ROYAL MUSKETEER for trainer Steph Hollinshead in the Pride Embracing Every Shade Handicap over 7f.

The gelding shaped quite promisingly at Newmarket over this trip last time in a Class 4 event and takes an ease in grade now following that first turf start of the year.

He only narrowly missed out on second spot at Headquarters and the winner, fourth and fifth from that race last month have all come out and won on their next starts.

He runs from an unchanged mark and now has a first-time hood added. Dougie Costello's mount looks primed for a big showing on his first Newbury appearance.

This is an Extra Place Race, so Betfred are paying 4 places instead of 3 at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets.

Royal Musketeer each-way for the 19.15 Newbury at 11-1
