Lucky 15

It's Day Two on the Roodee, so that's where we're headed for our Lucky 15 tips on Thursday. The Group 3 Ormonde and the Listed Dee Stakes are two of the highlights, but such is the magic of Chester it's frankly hard not to marvel at every contest.

There's just nowhere like it.

Lucky 15 Tips Thursday

Chester

  • 13:30 - Democracy Dilemma @ 11/2
  • 14:35 - Celtic Warrior @ 7/1
  • 15:05 - Jayarebe @ 11/4
  • 15:40 - Alsakib @ 7/1

13:30 - Democracy Dilemma @ 11/2

Tom Marquand is a great booking for trainer Robert Cowell's sprinter Democracy Dilemma - a decidedly useful Fitri Hay-owned four-year-old gelding.

He's both won and run well here before, and is a very consistent type. He took in a couple of warm contests in the early part of the year (Meydan and Jebel Ali), and reappears after an 89-day break.

Great draw in the two box for a horse that can race prominently, and in an ultra-competitive affair he's got very bright prospects.

14:35 - Celtic Warrior @ 7/1

The first of our Oisin Murphy selections, and in the famous colours once again of Mrs Hay. Celtic Warrior is trained by Andrew Balding, and his father Ian was a master at readying one for this meeting.

The three-year-old Saxon Warrior gelding has been steadily improving and makes his handicap debut off a mark of 83. That could be within compass, as should be this trip (just short of a mile), as his sire was outstanding at up to 10f.

Oisin knows him well, having been on board when he broke his maiden at Kempton in April.

15:05 - Jayarebe @ 11/4

A select field for the Listed Dee Stakes, and our choice Jayarebe represents trainer Brain Meehan. Sean Levey rides - as he did last time at Newmarket, when readily taking the Listed Fielden Stakes.

The three-year-old Zoffany colt has only run on three occasions, and last time was a big step up. Absolutely every right to hope for more improvement on Thursday, and he's got a couple of fancy entries - the Ascot 'Derby,' and the Eclipse. Cracking contest.

15:40 - Alsakib @ 7/1

'Murph' once again, in the Group 3 Ormonde. Alsakib is an Andrew Balding-trained four-year-old Kingman colt who's in the Hardwicke at the Royal meeting.  He was in terrific, progressive nick last term and reappeared in Newbury's John Porter 19 days ago, running well but not getting involved at the business end.

He'll strip fitter no doubt on Thursday and with the likely betting principals having questions to answer for me, he's value.

If you're playing, have fun, and the very best of luck.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.25p each-way Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £740 for your total £7.50 stake.
