Lucky 15

Plenty of attractive jump racing on Thursday April 25th, with action coming from Warwick, Perth, Huntingdon and Wexford. Flat aficionados are catered for courtesy of Beverley and Chelmsford.

There's a gorgeous little afternoon card at beautiful Beverley, with Oisin Murphy and Tom Marquand among the top jocks present, so it's to the East Riding of Yorkshire that I'm delighted to be visiting for our Lucky 15 tips. Chance to see prolific sprinting legend Copper Knight, too - what a treat!

Lucky 15 tips Thursday, Beverley

  • 15:20 - Dambuster @ 6/4
  • 15:55 - Sea The Dream @ 9/4
  • 16:30 - Westernesse @ 7/4
  • 17.05 - My Harrison George @ 11/10

15:20 - Dambuster @ 6/4

A ten-furlong test for three-year-olds, and a Kingman gelding trained by Andrew Balding with Oisin Murphy up.

Dambuster has run just twice, last term, at Sandown and Newmarket. He won his maiden, but was then rather overfaced at HQ in a Group 3, and eased when his chance had gone.

He reappears in far calmer waters in a novice stakes' with several potentially promising types. This is one of two booked rides for the former champ (Flowering in the 17:40 is the other), and both look to have excellent chances.

15:55 - Sea The Dream @ 9/4

Three-year-olds again, with time over 7.5f, in a decent Class 3 handicap. Sea The Dream arrives on a high, having won last time 16 days ago in similar circumstances at Thirsk.

The filly Catton Lady is weighted to get far closer to the selection this time on that Thirsk running but I'm hoping Ed Bethell's charge is on an upward curve and can defy the modest 2lb uplift. He is certainly up in class but as I say, might just be on the improve.

That seasonal reappearance run was a career-high. Potentially, another is now required to prevail.

16:30 - Westernesse @ 7/4

Small field, smashing-looking heat. A Class 4 handicap, at 8.5f. My selection Westernesse is a five-year-old gelding by Derby hero Camelot and trained in North Yorkshire by David O'Meara. The excellent Danny Tudhope takes the mount.

Two all-weather cobweb-clearers this campaign so far, both at Newcastle, and should be cherry-ripe to strike now. Won at Ponty, a similarly stiff track, last summer (admittedly on better ground), and is only a pound higher here.

Owned by the super-shrewd Horse Watchers, he gets a nice little chunk of weight from an Ed Dunlop raider, and I'm very hopeful.

17.05 - My Harrison George @ 11/10

Rather nicely-named four-year-old Lope De Vega gelding, in the hands of Richard Fahey. Stable jockey Oisin Orr gets the riding assignment. This is his first spin since early December, when running very well at Wolves on the sand.

He's very lightly-raced but of four 2023 outings he improved steadily throughout. His sire went well on soft ground and Mr Fahey has one of the most powerful outfits in the north.

Rarely will he leave racedays like this without going at least very close. 'Something' tells me My Harrison George can send him, and us, home happy on Thursday.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £85 for your total £7.50 stake.
