Lucky 15

Plenty of attractive racing is taking place on Friday May 24th, across the UK and over in Ireland. Bath are staging an eight-race card (14:15 - 18:10), and as it's a track we visit infrequently let's head down to Somerset for our Lucky 15 tips.

James Doyle and Billy Loughnane are among the notable jockeys present, and it should be a cracking afternoon.

Lucky 15 Tips Friday

Bath

  • 14:50 - Aesterius @ 13/8
  • 17:00 - Divine Presence @ 9/4
  • 17:30 - City Escape @ 15/2
  • 18:10 - Lunario @ 11/4

14:50 - Aesterius @ 13/8

Precious little public form to go on here, but one horse for me is of particular interest in this two-year-old novice (5f).

Aesterius is an unraced Mehmas colt, trained by the excellent Archie Watson. He's earned a deserved reputation with juveniles, and the presence of James Doyle in the plate is a big plus in my book.

Hollie Doyle is a go-to for the trainer in many such cases, but the pocket dynamo is at Pontefract. The Doyler is a magnificent stand-in and though there are no fancy entries, owners Wathnan Racing have plenty of horses in training, across some of the nation's very best yards.

This could just be a case of big-ish fish in ordinary-sized pond - that's my hope anyway. As I say, little to go on bar a hunch. We'll soon find out if it's inspired or otherwise.

17:00 - Divine Presence @ 9/4

Three-year-old-and-upwards novice fillies now, and a representative from the top-drawer stable of John and Thady Gosden.

Divine Presence is a beautifully-bred daughter of Dubawi out of a Galileo mare, with just two runs under her belt. First - a little Lingfield novice on the all-weather, at two. But a far better effort next time, on seasonal reappearance, in a Newmarket maiden three weeks ago.

She was beaten just over 10l but the winner is a smart Haggas filly who's in the Ribblesdale and the Irish Oaks - and the runner-up took a £21k race next time at HQ for Godolphin.

The selection is also in the Ribblesdale, but this handicap looks a good place to start out. We'll soon know more about how far in the game Lady Bamford's filly is likely to go. First tentative, promising steps to be taken then perhaps on Friday.

17:30 - City Escape @ 15/2

Billy Loughnane rarely leaves this kind of meet empty-handed, and he has a number of opportunities - including this one for his father Mark.

City Escape is an experienced seven-year-old Cityscape mare who won off 60 last September, on ground with juice in it. Should get similar underfoot conditions here, and off a mark of 57 a win would be no surprise surely to anyone.

She reappears just nine days after a running-on fourth, only beaten around 2l, at this very track. That too was off 57 and was a season-best. Looks very much like her turn is close at hand to me.

18:10 - Lunario @ 11/4

The lucky last, a modest basement-grade handicap, and a four-year-old gelding in fine form looking to defy top-weight.

Lunario has form figures of 212 for his last three runs, and last time at Nottingham a fortnight ago under a penalty ran on really well to be beaten less than a length. Looks like he's not quite finished with this little purple patch to me, and trainer Alice Haynes has every right to be extremely hopeful.

Kieran O'Neill takes the mount, and again any cut in the ground is unlikely to pose any problems.

If you're playing, have fun, take care, and good luck.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £340 for your total £7.50 stake.
