Lucky 15

Greetings! There's some fantastic racing to enjoy on Friday. Imagine action at York, Chester, Sandown AND Goodwood all on the same day? Sensational stuff. They are all on the flat, but jumping fans will be catered for too (Market Rasen and Newton Abbot). Throw in a Cork gathering in Ireland on the level, with Colin Keane and Billy Lee among the jocks involved, and it's clear this is no ordinary raceday.

I'm a huge fan of racing on the Knavesmire. It's my favourite track, and where many of my most cherished racecourse memories have been born, including the mighty Frankel's imperious Juddmonte Stakes romp in 2012. My Lucky 15 tips come from York then on Friday June 14, and with their big Macmillan Charity day to follow on Saturday it's sure to be a busy and hopefully hugely successful couple of days.

Lucky 15 Tips Friday

York

  • 13:50 - Feel The Need @ 11/2
  • 15.35 - River Seine @ 11/4
  • 16:10 - Machete @ 7/1
  • 16:45 - Moonlit Cloud @ 17/2

Horse Racing Odds

13:50 - Feel The Need @ 11/2

My selection is 4lb higher for a convincing win here at this trip/grade 20 days ago, and for me has a very bright chance of following up under today's apprentice pilot Ben Sanderson.

Trainer Michael Herrington is in form with a couple of winners in recent days, including yesterday at Yarmouth with Anif. Feel The Need has a decent draw to work with (3), and can at the very least go very, very close.

He's generally held up so look for Ben to come with a withering late run.

15.35 - River Seine @ 11/4

A 5f contest for two-year-old sprint fillies, and I'm plumping here for an absolute master with his juveniles - Middleham Moor maestro Karl Burke.

River Seine has had two spins so far, in novice stakes races at HQ and Carlisle, and can put that experience to good use. Danny Tudhope takes the mount and was on board for both those previous runs. She wears the famous Clipper Logistics silks, so successful in recent years.

She's raced prominently so far and on the  sweeping, flatter pastures of the Knavesmire might just be set alight and look to make all. She's in the Windsor Castle at next week's Royal meeting, a measure perhaps of the regard she's held in at home.

16:10 - Machete @ 7/1

The David O'Meara stable is in decent order right now, and he loves little more than having winners at York from his base just ten miles or so north-east of this wonderful city.

Machete is having just his second run for the yard after arriving from France last month. He was a running-on fourth in this grade at Redcar, beaten less than 5l. That was his first spin for 240 days, so an even more meritorious effort.

We're paying four places each-way here (17 runners) and I've high hopes that as the stable find out more about him, and the horse acclimatises better to his new surroundings, that his shrewd handler can eventually make hay.

He's already entered up in the prestigious John Smith's handicap here next month - let's hope Friday shows that to be an entirely realistic target.

16:45 - Moonlit Cloud @ 17/2

A highly-competitive 10.5f handicap, and a six-year-old mare raiding from Dean Ivory's Hertfordshire base.

Moonlit Cloud ran a blinder in a higher grade at Newbury 28 days ago, and is in career-best order. They say back a filly or mare in-form, and she's certainly that.

It's another with four each-way places on offer (16 runners, fingers crossed), and at what I feel is a very attractive price. This has the feel of an each-way L15, so that's exactly the way I'm going to play it.

If you're having a flutter have fun, take care, and above all - enjoy.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.25p each-way Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £870 for your total £7.50 stake.
