National Hunt racing barely gets a look-in on Monday as there are five meetings across the UK and Ireland on the day and all bar one of them are Flat fixtures.

Lingfield kicks us off and is swiftly followed by Carlisle, before the evening action from Roscommon, Windsor and Pontefract.

We have three strong fancies on Monday and amongst them is one for trainer David O’Meara who will be attempting to maintain an unbeaten record at Pontefract.

14:35 Lingfield - Appier @ 3/1

Another horse who is one to watch on Monday, Sean Woods’ APPIER, is bidding to follow up his course and distance victory earlier this month.

The gelded son of Holy Roman Emperor has a 75 per cent strike-rate on Lingfield’s all-weather track and he has to be under consideration with that in mind.

It was a strong performance when scoring last time and he needed every yard of it to catch Way Of Life, who’s in opposition once again.

A 3lb higher mark will make life harder as it will require a career best effort now, but he’s unlikely to be far away nonetheless.

19:30 Pontefract - Charging Thunder @ 9/4

David O’Meara’s CHARGING THUNDER has been out of the winners’ enclosure for a while now and a return is long overdue. If he is to get back to winning ways, Pontefract may well be the place where he’ll do it.

The six-year-old son of War Command is unbeaten in two starts here and he now finds himself on the same mark off which the second of those victories came. This is surely a good time to catch him and there were signs of a return to form when third at Newcastle last time.

Progressive and lightly raced four-year-old Esmeray should provide some stern competition, but Charging Thunder surely won’t lose his unbeaten record at the track without a fight.

The drop in grade will also help, as he just about squeezes into this 0-85 and it presents a cracking opportunity to get his head in front.

19:40 Windsor - Antiphon @ 7/2

Watch out for Mike Murphy & Michael Keady’s ANTIPHON at Windsor, as the five-year-old has only failed to make the frame once in nine starts at the Berkshire track.

He was victorious here off a 6lb lower mark back in April and was narrowly denied over 6f on his penultimate start. The five-year-old’s record just about suggests that 5f is more suitable, with three of his five career victories coming over the minimum trip.

It was a fine effort when fourth in the Dash at Epsom last time as he was running from 9lb out of the handicap and he managed to finish fourth in that very competitive affair. This race certainly looks easier and he should be bang in the mix as a result.
