York Racecourse

Six meetings take place in Britain on Friday, with three afternoon fixtures (York, Sandown and Chester) followed by three more in the evening (Goodwood, Newton Abbot and Market Rasen) - and there's a couple of Irish cards (Fairyhouse and Cork) to enjoy also.

Friday's racing tips features a Clive Cox-trained filly who continues to improve having recorded her third victory at Windsor last time.

Friday's Racing Tips

  • 15:00 York - Katey Kontent @ 4/1
  • 16:25 Sandown - Zipster @ 11/2
  • 19:50 Goodwood - Enchanting @ 13/8

15:00 York - Katey Kontent @ 4/1

KATEY KONTENT recorded her third career victory when winning on her reappearance at Windsor last month, and she can shrug off a further 3lb rise and follow up in the 6f Fillies' Handicap on the Knavesmire today

Clive Cox's four-year-old looks progressive after running well in defeat on numerous occasions last autumn. Having finished fourth in this grade at Salisbury in September, she came close to recording a second success back at the Wiltshire track the following month, when beaten half a length by Under The Twilight.

That was only a Class 4, but the way the form has since worked out suggests it was a good race for the grade with the first four home and the sixth all having won since. That includes the selection following her Windsor win, when she ran down her rivals to defeat Laoisman a nose.

She has been upped 3lb to a mark of 88 for that victory, but this is a filly who was initially given a rating of 93 two years ago and she looks to be getting better.

The forecast rain is a downside, although she proved she handles soft when second at Salisbury last term.

This is an Extra Place Race, so Betfred are paying 4 places instead of 3 at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets.

16:25 Sandown - Zipster @ 11/2

William Buick is back aboard ZIPSTER having ridden the gelding to finish fifth at Sandown last month, and that could be quite decent form, too. The winner, Blake, was an eye-catching fourth at Epsom on Derby day, while the second and the fourth both followed up next time out.

Simon & Ed Crisford's charge has since been dropped 1lb in the ratings, enabling him to take a drop in class in this 7f Handicap at the Esher track. He also drops back a furlong, which certainly does not look a bad idea given he didn't quite see out the mile here last time.

Zipster had won over that distance on his penultimate outing at Yarmouth. That was his first run since a gelding operation and it already seems to be paying dividends.

This is an Extra Place Race, so Betfred are paying 4 places instead of 3 at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets.

19:50 Goodwood - Enchanting @ 13/8

Having gone off at 20-1, ENCHANTING massively outran her odds to make the frame in the 3YO Dash at Epsom last time out.

The Andrew Balding-trained filly helped force what was a strong pace at the Surrey venue, keeping on really well to finish best of the front-runners and only being run down by a few coming from off the pace once hitting the rising ground.

The time was only marginally slower than the Dash half an hour later, yet the handicapper has dropped Enchanting 1lb, meaning she's now as much as 4lb below her initial rating, and she gets another go at a downhill track when she drops in class in the 5f Handicap at Goodwood, the penultimate race on the card. The forecast rain is also in her favour.

This is an Extra Place Race, so Betfred are paying 3 places instead of 2 at 1/5 the odds for all each-way bets.
