Romania vs Ukraine Bet Builder Tips: 20/1 shot for Ukraine success

On Monday, Romania begin their Euro 2024 campaign as they face Ukraine in Group E (14:00, BBC One) at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Edward Iordănescu will be hoping to get his side off to a winning start, but having missed out on qualification for the last three major tournaments, they will just be glad to be at this summer’s competition. 

Meanwhile Ukraine are my dark horses for this tournament, and given this group contains Slovakia and Belgium as well as these two teams, it looks wide open for the qualification spaces. Below you can find my Romania vs Ukraine Bet Builder Tips.

Ukraine to win

I really fancy Ukraine to do well in Germany, and I think they can make it all the way to the quarter-finals. I also think they will be in with a chance of winning this group, but they have to get off to a winning start against Romania on Monday. 

There’s quality littered throughout their squad, with goalkeeper Andriy Lunin coming off the back of a simply sensational season with Real Madrid. He will play a key role here, while Illia Zabarnyi and Vitaliy Mykolenko will be familiar defenders to fans of the Premier League. 

They also have the influential Oleksandr Zinchenko in midfield, Mykhailo Mudryk out wide and Artem Dovbyk up front. With captain Andriy Yarmolenko and Taras Stepanenko now both 34, they will provide experience and leadership to this talented squad. Ukraine drew with Germany and Italy recently, and I think they will cause serious problems for major nations at this tournament. 

They face Romania, who are without a win in their last four games, and drew 0-0 with Liechtenstein and Bulgaria in their last two fixtures. I don’t think they stand much of a chance against this vibrant Ukrainian outfit.

We’ve just touched upon Romania’s lack of goals, and I think Ukraine will be too good for them and as a result Serhiy Rebrov’s side should be able to keep a clean sheet here. Romania have really lacked a cutting edge in their last few games, and those successive 0-0 draws against Liechtenstein and Bulgaria raise alarm bells for me. I think Ukraine should win to nil.

Artem Dovbyk to score 2+ 

Since his move to Girona, Dovbyk has taken his game up a level. The Ukrainian number nine is guaranteed to lead the line and has just won the Golden Boot in La Liga. He has scored 25 goals in 41 games in all competitions this season, and with 24 in 36 league games, should be able to have a brilliant tournament. At 26 he has the power and physicality to batter any European defence, while his eye for goal should see him score a decent number of goals this summer.
