Portugal vs Czech Republic Bet Builder Tips: 33/1 shot including Ronaldo to score

Germany, Spain, Italy and England have all begun their Euro 2024 campaigns with wins, and on Tuesday night, the much-fancied Portugal take centre stage. Roberto Martinez’s men begin in Leipzig with a match against the Czech Republic (20:00, BBC One) as Cristiano Ronaldo targets another international trophy. 

There’s a lot of hope and hype around this Portugal squad, which, pound-for-pound, has the talent to match any other side at the tournament. Now they must live up to the expectation with a win in their opening game. Below you can find my Portugal vs Czech Republic Bet Builder Tips. 

Portugal to win

I’m really keen on Portugal's chances this summer. In fact, I think they will go all the way, just as they did eight years ago in France. This time around, they have a stronger squad and won 10 out of 10 in qualifying - something no other nation could manage. They’ve also employed a manager who knows the international game in Martinez, who has plenty of tournament experience in charge of Belgium, and led them to the World Cup semi-final in 2018. 

I think with the balance in this squad, with a spine of Ruben Dias, Joao Palhinha, Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo, they should be able to beat most teams in this competition. Given they have been handed a relatively simple group with Czech Republic, Turkey and Georgia, they should win three from three, and then enter the knockout stages full of confidence. Three points here are expected.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael Leao to score

I think Portugal will be by far the superior side in this game, and as a result they should win by a few goals. I’m expecting a 3/4-0 win from Portugal, so let’s pick out a couple of their likely goalscorers. I’ll start with Ronaldo, whose goalscoring record speaks for itself. He has 130 goals for Portugal, and even at the age of 39, is likely to start up front. 

I also think he won’t have to do any link play, or defensive work. He has incredible creators behind him in the form of Fernandes and Silva, and as a result, should be able to do what he does best, in the box. Meanwhile, Rafa Leao is set to start on the left and has had another superb season with AC Milan. Arguably his club’s best player, he is set to star at this tournament, having scored twice at the last World Cup.

Ladislav Krejci and Jan Kuchta to be booked

Ladislav Krejci is set to play on the left-hand side of the defence and as a tough-tacking defender, is likely to pick up a booking. He received 10 yellow cards for Sparta Prague this term before his move to Girona, and up against this wonderful Portuguese attack, is going to find life tough. The same can be said for Jan Kuchta, who is a combative striker that loves to get stuck in. He could get frustrated in this match if his side struggles to keep the ball, and with seven yellows for his club, could find himself in the referee’s notebook again.
