Switzerland are gearing up for another crack on the European stage at this summer's Euro 2024 in Germany. Three years ago they reached the quarter-finals after coming from behind against France to then eliminate the then-reigning world champions on penalties.

They have been drawn in a tough group with the host nation, Scotland and Hungary this time around, which will see them have their work cut out for them. Below are my Euro 2024 Switzerland predictions.

Euro 2024 Betting Odds - Switzerland

  • Switzerland to win Euro 2024 @ 50/1
  • To win Group A @ 11/2
  • To qualify from Group A @ 1/2
  • Stage of elimination - Last 16 @ 7/2
  • Team top goalscorer - Zeki Amdouni @ 5/1

This will be Switzerland's third consecutive appearance at the Euros finals and sixth major tournament in a row adding to their three recent outings at the World Cup.

Swiss boss Murat Yakin has been in the post just shy of three years and inherited the team that bested France at Euro 2020. He guided the team to the round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and he will be hoping that he can at least reach that stage at the Euros in Germany.

He has some talented individuals in his squad and the most notable ones are Granit Xhaka, Manuel Akanji, Xherdan Shaqiri and Yann Sommer, who can all make an impact this summer. Although Sommer faces a tough battle with fellow goalkeeper Gregor Kobel for the number one spot after the latter's impressive season with Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Euro 2024 Odds

Squad

Goalkeepers: Yann Sommer (Inter Milan), Yvon Mvogo (Lorient), Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund).

Defenders: Ricardo Rodriguez (Torino), Fabian Schar (Newcastle), Manuel Akanji (Manchester City), Nico Elvedi (Borussia Monchengladbach), Silvan Widmer (Mainz), Cedric Zesiger (Wolfsburg), Leonidas Stergiou (Stuttgart).

Midfielders: Granit Xhaka (Bayer Leverkusen), Xherdan Shaqiri (Chicago Fire), Remo Freuler (Bologna), Denis Zakaria (Monaco), Michel Aebischer (Bologna), Fabian Rieder (Rennes), Ardon Jashari (Luzern), Vincent Sierro (Toulouse).

Forwards: Breel Embolo (Monaco), Steven Zuber (AEK Athens), Ruben Vargas (Augsburg), Renato Steffen (Lugano), Noah Okafor (AC Milan), Zeki Amdouni (Burnley), Dan Ndoye (Bologna), Kwadwo Duah (Ludogorets).

Switzerland to win Euro 2024 @ 50/1

It's a long shot of course because there are many teams better equipped to go all the way than Switzerland but they are a team that can surprise a few when they are on-song. They are one of the sides fitting of the label 'dark horses' but I don't think one that will go on to lift the trophy in Berlin next month.

bf_euros_group_winner_bonus_800x258_euro_hub To win Group A @ 11/2

They face fierce competition in their group and I think it will be a tricky one to get out of. I can envisage all four teams managing to pick up points but whether they are all equally shared does not seem likely.

Switzerland have the group of players to perform well under pressure in this group, but I don't see them winning it. That luxury I'm giving to the host nation.

To qualify from Group A @ 1/2

The odds aren't great but this is where I'd be more comfortable putting my money on the Swiss. I expect it will be close between them and Hungary for second spot but a decent return of points could secure the side that finishes third a place in the knockout stage too. Four of those extra spots are up for grabs and I think it is likely that one of them will come from Group A.

Stage of elimination - Last 16 @ 7/2

I don't think Switzerland will go as far as they did at Euro 2020 and that is purely on the basis of how I see the group stage panning out. I have Switzerland to finish second in their group, and that would see them face the runner-up of Group B, which I see either being Spain or Croatia.

Both would be a difficult test for the Swiss and one I'm not confident in seeing them overcome. Spain eliminated them three years ago via penalties in the quarter-finals, while Croatia have posted second and third finishes at the last two World Cups.

Team top goalscorer - Zeki Amdouni @ 5/1

As their top scorer in qualifying, I think the sensible selection would be Zeki Amdouni. The Burnley man scored six goals in 10 appearances in the qualifying campaign and he will fancy his chances of being just as prolific at the tournament finals.

Other players worth considering are Xherdan Shaqiri (4/1) and Breel Embolo (6/1) as both have a history of scoring at major tournaments, with the former boasting the more impressive record.
